Super Mario Bros. Wonder is now available in a $20 Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade (or $80 for those who do not own the original game). This upgrade offers new stages, modes, and boss fights, differentiating itself from previous Nintendo Switch 2 Edition releases. While the new content might not cater to every player, it generally offers $20 worth of fun and serves as an effective DLC for the original game.

When Nintendo initially announced the paid Switch 2 upgrade for Wonder, expectations were for new levels. However, the upgrade repurposes existing content to deliver additional hours of gameplay. In this new version, the Toad Brigade introduces “training exercises” that challenge players’ proficiency in Wonder. In addition, the upgrade provides new boss fights against the Koopalings, who use Wonder Seeds to transform into unique forms for Mario to confront.

The “Meetup in Bellabel Park” section introduces a new hub on the map, filled with local and online multiplayer activities. Gamers who enjoy solo playing may not find much value here, but the experience is still enjoyable during multiplayer sessions at events and during reviews. Multiplayer modes mainly revolve around racing to the finish line, employing different power-ups and stage features for varied experiences.

Overall, Mario Wonder on Switch 2 may not be a standout in Nintendo’s release strategy, but at $20, it delivers value with native 4K resolution and enjoyable content.
