Orion: All About Life Aboard the Artemis 2 Moon Spacecraft

NASA’s Artemis 2 crew is set to embark on a mission to fly around the moon in the Orion spacecraft. The four astronauts, Jeremy Hansen, Christina Koch, Victor Glover, and Reid Wiseman, will live in the 330-cubic-foot capsule for 10 days, testing its capability to sustain human life in space. The mission marks NASA’s first crewed venture beyond low-Earth orbit in over 50 years. The spacecraft will serve as a cockpit, lab, dining room, bathroom, bedroom, and lifeboat, with the astronauts having more space compared to the Apollo missions, yet significantly less than what is available on the International Space Station. During the mission, the crew will execute various demonstrations and monitor systems but will remain within the capsule as it travels around the moon’s far side. For training and emergencies, they are equipped with orange survival suits that provide essential supplies. The mission, expected to launch on April 1, is a crucial step towards future moon landings planned for later in the decade.
