YouTube CEO Neal Mohan recently stated that he is not concerned about Netflix and other streaming platforms attracting the service’s top creators.
Mohan’s remarks were part of an extended conversation with The New York Times series The Interview — which, as Mohan pointed out, is available on YouTube. Throughout the discussion, he appeared confident, and when questioned about Oscar host Conan O’Brien’s jokes about YouTube, Mohan simply commented that O’Brien is “very funny” and noted that his “Team Coco channel does really well on YouTube.”
Regarding popular podcasts like “The Breakfast Club” and “My Favorite Murder” moving to Netflix, Mohan said it’s “flattering” that competitors “see us as the center of culture.” However, he mentioned that when speaking to top YouTubers, they express that “no matter what they look to do, they understand that YouTube is their home.”
“I have not come across YouTubers that have completely yanked their content off YouTube,” Mohan stated. He noted that when YouTubers negotiate with other platforms, those streamers often “acquiesce to what our YouTubers ultimately know is the right decision for them in the long term, which is to never leave their home.”
