Order Grubhub and Uber Eats ‘Conversationally’ with Alexa Plus

1 Min Read

Amazon introduces a new way to order food using Alexa with Grubhub and Uber Eats, emphasizing a seamless and conversational ordering process. Users can modify orders, change items, or add drinks effortlessly mid-conversation. Unlike the traditional call-and-response model, this update allows for a dynamic interaction where Alexa only intervenes when assistance is needed. This evolution follows the launch of Alexa Plus, a generative AI-powered version of Alexa aimed at enhancing its usefulness and conversational abilities.

The feature is available to Alexa Plus subscribers with Echo Show 8 devices or larger, allowing real-time order updates. Users can link their Grubhub or Uber Eats accounts via the Alexa app by navigating to More > Alexa+ Store > Food & Reservations. Saved restaurants and past orders sync automatically, and users can search, reorder, or start new orders, reviewing their cart before purchase. Order updates are available in the “For You” section, or users can inquire directly with Alexa.

Amazon views this update as the beginning of a broader vision for customer interaction with Alexa, transitioning from a command-driven assistant to a more intuitive, conversational AI. Future expansions aim to include grocery shopping and travel planning within the conversational framework.
