Meta Agrees to Reduce Instagram’s PG-13 Rating References

The Motion Picture Association has issued a cease-and-desist order to Meta after the company compared Instagram’s teen content restrictions to movie ratings. Meta has now agreed with the MPA to significantly reduce its reference to the PG-13 rating when describing Instagram’s teen accounts. The agreement, effective April 15th, also requires Meta to display a disclaimer clarifying the differences between social media and movies and acknowledging that the MPA is not involved in rating or endorsing Instagram’s content. Meta’s content guidelines for ages 13 and up remain unchanged.
