Struggling with Easy, Medium, or Hard levels? We have all you need.
Welcome to your guide to Pips, the latest addition to the New York Times games catalogue. Released in August 2025, Pips gives a fresh twist on dominoes, providing a fun, single-player experience that could become your new daily gaming habit. Currently, if you’re stuck, the game only reveals the entire puzzle, pushing you to move onto the next level. But don’t worry, we offer piece-by-piece answers to help you navigate each difficulty.
How to play Pips: If you’ve played dominoes, you’ll somewhat understand Pips. As we’ve mentioned before in our hints, tiles are placed vertically or horizontally, connecting like dominoes. The main difference is handling the color-coded conditions, where touching tiles don’t have to match.
You must meet conditions tied to color-coded spaces. For instance, a single number indicates every side of a tile in that space must add up to that number. It’s common for only half a tile to be in a color-coded space.
Here are common conditions across the difficulty levels:
– Number: All pips must add up to the number.
– Equal: Every domino half in this area must be the same number.
– Not Equal: Every domino half must differ in number.
– Less than: Every domino half must total less than the number.
– Greater than: Every domino half must total more than the number.
If a space lacks color coding, there are no conditions on the domino portions within.
