For those using iOS 18, pay attention.
Apple is set to release a rare patch addressing the DarkSword spyware issue on phones running iOS 18, as reported by Wired. Typically, Apple advises users to upgrade to the latest iOS version (currently iOS 26.4), but this time, iOS 18 users will receive their own patch.
DarkSword, a publicly available web-based tool, allows hackers to steal data from iPhones. While Apple secured iOS 26 against DarkSword, iOS 18 remains vulnerable. Users may choose iOS 18 due to reluctance to upgrade to the new “Liquid Glass” interface introduced in iOS 26. According to a TelemetryDeck survey, about 19% of iPhone users were on iOS 18 by February’s end.
An Apple spokesperson informed Wired that the patch would be released Wednesday morning. This update will not upgrade iOS 18 users to iOS 26 but will protect them from DarkSword. Apple still recommends updating to iOS 26 for enhanced protection.
