London-based hardware company Nothing plans to release smart glasses next year, as reported by Bloomberg citing anonymous sources. The glasses are expected to have cameras, microphones, and speakers, connecting to smartphones and the cloud for AI processing.

CEO and co-founder Carl Pei initially resisted smart glasses but now aims for a multi-device strategy, extending beyond smartphones and audio gear, says Bloomberg. The company also intends to launch AI-featured earbuds this year. Pei previously mentioned an AI device release in 2026, without specifying details.

Should the report hold true, Nothing would compete with Meta, Even Realities, and Rokid, all producing smart glasses. Meta has released various versions and recently unveiled models supporting prescription lenses. Apple and Google are also rumored to be entering the smart glasses market soon.

Nothing achieved unicorn status last year after securing a $200 million Series C round, valuing it at $1.3 billion. Renowned for its unique transparent designs, it remains a minor player in the smartphone market dominated by Apple, Samsung, Chinese firms, and Google.

Pei has emphasized the need for hardware and software innovation, alongside AI usage, to stand out. Last year, Nothing launched a tool enabling users to create mini apps with AI prompts.
