According to The Information and Eric Newcomer, Anthropic has acquired the stealth biotech AI startup Coefficient Bio in a $400 million stock transaction. Sources confirmed to TechCrunch that the deal is finalized but did not disclose the financial details.
This acquisition is part of Anthropic’s expansion into healthcare and life sciences, following its announcement in October about Claude for Life Sciences, a tool designed to aid scientific researchers in making discoveries.
Coefficient Bio was founded eight months ago by Samuel Stanton and Nathan C. Frey, who both previously worked in computational drug discovery at Genentech’s Prescient Design. The startup used AI to enhance drug discovery and other biological research processes.
The team of around 10 members is expected to integrate into Anthropic’s health and life sciences division.
