Iran Threatens ‘Stargate’ AI Data Centers

2 Min Read

Iran has issued a warning of further assaults on data centers throughout the Middle East in response to persistent threats and airstrikes from the United States.

The Iranian military stated that if the U.S. proceeds with threats against its civilian infrastructure, Iran would retaliate by targeting U.S. energy and tech infrastructure in the region, as per a video released last week and shared widely on Sunday by Iranian military spokesperson Ebrahim Zolfaghari.

The video shows a globe, zooming in on the Stargate data center in the United Arab Emirates, with the message “nothing stays hidden to our sight, though hidden by Google.”

Stargate is a $500 billion joint venture among OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle to build AI data centers, announced in January 2025. It initially faced difficulties due to alleged funding issues and tariff costs, while also seeking international expansion with new data centers.

The latest threat follows U.S. President Trump’s warning to hit Iran’s civilian infrastructure, such as power and desalination plants, if Iran fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday. The strait is a critical global shipping channel that has disrupted global supply chains since the war started in February.

Numerous data centers in the region have been struck by missiles during the conflict.

Iranian missiles targeted Amazon Web Services data centers in Bahrain and an Oracle data center in Dubai. Iran has also threatened major tech companies such as Nvidia and Apple by name last week.
