The hurdles in reusing notebook code within real software systems further complicate scaling from exploration to production. Marimo, an open-source Python notebook, aims to tackle these challenges. Created by Akshay Agrawal, a former Google Brain employee, Marimo focuses on overcoming the shortcomings of traditional notebooks. In a discussion with Kevin Ball, the vice president of engineering at Mento, they explore the potential of reactive notebooks, Marimo’s role in bridging research and production, and the place of notebooks in the realm of AI-assisted development.
