A new initiative in five cities will focus on mapping and repairing urban potholes. Announced by Waymo and Waze, this pilot program will use Waymo’s autonomous vehicle sensors to identify and report pothole locations. This data will be shared with local transportation departments via Waze for Cities, which offers real-time road data. Starting in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, and Atlanta, the program may extend to areas with challenging transportation conditions. The initiative aims to enhance the maintenance of safer streets. Concurrently, Waymo continues to expand its driverless taxi services, competing with Tesla in the autonomous vehicle market.
