John Deere has settled a class-action lawsuit by agreeing to pay $99 million. The lawsuit accused the company of blocking access to repair materials for farmers and mechanics. According to Reuters, as part of the settlement, John Deere will provide repair resources on a license or subscription basis for 10 years. By the end of 2026, equipment owners and repair shops will be allowed to reprogram or perform diagnostics offline, eliminating the need to visit authorized Deere Dealers. The lawsuit, filed in 2022, directs settlement funds to those who paid for repairs at John Deere dealers from January 2018 until preliminary approval. John Deere denies wrongdoing and is facing another lawsuit from the FTC for allegedly increasing repair costs by restricting repairs to authorized dealers.
