The Specs, launching this year, will run on a Snapdragon XR chip.

Snap’s upcoming consumer AR glasses are expected to debut this year, featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR chip as part of a “multi-year strategic agreement.” Snap has been developing smart glasses for ten years, with its first Spectacles launching in 2016. However, recent AR-capable generations were not released to the general public. The new consumer Specs continue Snap and Qualcomm’s collaboration, with Snapdragon chips having powered several previous Spectacles models.

A joint statement from the companies highlights plans to enhance Specs with industry-leading features like on-device AI, cutting-edge graphics, and advanced multiuser digital experiences through strategic roadmap alignment and technical collaboration. Earlier this year, Snap separated its smart glasses team into a standalone company, reaffirming a 2026 launch. Meanwhile, Meta is also working on AR glasses, potentially releasing them to consumers in 2027. Google and Samsung are collaborating on AR glasses, while Apple is reportedly developing its AR glasses.
