The developer of Little Snitch, a popular macOS app, has released a version for Linux, stating it is ‘not a security tool,’ unlike its Mac counterpart. The app allows users to monitor network activity. In a recent blog post, Objective Development shared that Linux systems had fewer processes making internet connections compared to macOS. Although the Linux version offers similar functionality to its macOS counterpart, it does not enhance security. The developers reported that Firefox on Ubuntu connects to multiple servers even with tracking disabled. They observed consistent behavior across platforms for apps like Thunderbird and Visual Studio Code, but noted LibreOffice made no network connections. Little Snitch for Linux, compatible with kernel 6.12 or newer, is now available for free.
