Apple intends to introduce its first smart glasses in 2027, with a possible preview by the end of this year, as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Gurman has consistently covered the development of Apple’s smart glasses strategy and now reveals more about their potential appearance. Apple is said to be testing four designs, with the possibility of launching some or all of them.
The designs reportedly include a large rectangular frame, a slimmer rectangular frame resembling CEO Tim Cook’s glasses, a larger oval or circular frame, and a smaller oval or circular frame. Different colors under consideration are black, ocean blue, and light brown.
These glasses represent a shift from a previously ambitious plan involving a range of mixed and augmented reality devices, a plan that faced setbacks due to product delays and the poor reception of the Vision Pro.
These glasses are more akin to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses. They will not feature displays but will enable users to take photos and videos (Apple is reportedly using oval camera lenses), answer phone calls, play music, and interact with Siri’s anticipated upgrade.
