Adobe announced on Tuesday that its AI assistant for Photoshop is now accessible to users in beta on the web and in mobile apps. The company is also introducing new AI-driven image editing features to Firefly, its media generation and editing tool.
The creative tools company initially revealed an AI assistant for Photoshop during its MAX event in October. This feature, now available to users, assists them in removing objects or people from images, changing colors, and adjusting lighting via prompts. Users can also use natural language to direct the AI assistant to add a soft glow, crop in a specific format, enhance shadows, or alter the background for a different image look.
Adobe stated that paid Photoshop users can generate unrestrained creations with the AI assistant until April 9, while free users will receive 20 initial generations.
Additionally, the company is introducing a new feature called AI markup in public beta. This feature allows users to draw markers on the screen and use the AI assistant to alter those objects. For example, users can draw a flower or mark an object to remove to modify the background.
Moreover, Adobe is integrating new image editing tools into its Firefly media creation tool. Firefly now includes Generative Fill, previously available in Photoshop, for object replacement or addition and background modification.
Firefly is also introducing a generative remove feature for object elimination, generative expand for enlarging an image using AI, and generative upscale features. Additionally, the company is adding a one-click tool to remove image backgrounds.
In February, the company announced unlimited generations for Firefly subscribers to boost usage. Over time, it has incorporated over 25 third-party video and image generation models, such as Google’s Nano Banana 2, OpenAI’s Image Generation, Runway’s Gen-4.5, and Black Forest Labs’ Flux.2 Pro.
