1 Min Read

Amazon is reportedly re-entering the smartphone market with a project codenamed “Transformer,” over a decade after discontinuing its Fire Phone. The new device is being developed by the Devices and Services division and will offer personalized features to enhance the use of Amazon’s apps like Amazon Shopping, Prime Video, and Prime Music. It will also feature Alexa support, emphasizing AI integration, as part of Amazon’s strategy to boost its AI product usage. The development is being handled by ZeroOne, a unit within the Devices division led by former Microsoft executive J Allard. This initiative aligns with Amazon’s significant AI investments, including $50 billion into OpenAI and plans for $200 billion in capital expenditures for AI, chips, and robotics in 2026. Alexa was recently updated with generative AI features, launched as Alexa+, to perform a wide range of tasks while maintaining its smart home capabilities. Amazon has declined to comment on these developments.
