Amazon Prime Video is increasing the price for its ad-free plan in the US, adding new features in the process. Starting April 10th, the plan, now called Prime Video “Ultra,” will cost $4.99 per month, up from $2.99, with “exclusive” access to 4K/UHD streaming. This increase comes two years after Amazon transitioned Prime Video users to an ad-supported model with an extra charge for ad-free viewing. The Ultra plan now includes up to five simultaneous streams, 100 downloads, and Dolby Atmos support, aligning with other major streaming platforms. Members on the ad-supported tier can still access HD/HDR streams, Dolby Vision, and live sports. The change occurs amidst recent price hikes on platforms like HBO Max, Apple TV, Paramount Plus, Disney Plus, and Crunchyroll and precedes anticipated Prime Video releases like Tomb Raider and God of War, following the series Fallout. Amazon states the pricing reflects the investment needed for premium features in ad-free streaming.
