It has only been a few weeks since Amazon began distributing a redesigned user interface for Fire TV devices in the U.S., and the company is now enhancing that with a reimagined Fire TV app for both Android and iOS.
Amazon informed Android Central today that the company is rolling out a new Fire TV mobile app that aims to “revolutionize how [users] engage with the Fire TV experience.”
Previously, the Fire TV app on Android primarily functioned as a remote control. However, with the recent update, Amazon is incorporating features that will make the experience more akin to the Google TV app.
Now, in addition to utilizing the app as a remote control, users can explore content, manage their watchlist, and start watching shows on their TV directly from their mobile device. Alongside these features, the app has also been visually updated to align with the new Fire TV interface on larger screens.
The refreshed Fire TV app now presents five tabs at the bottom. The first tab is the Remote tab, succeeded by tabs for Home, Search, Watchlist, and Account. The Search tab enables you to hunt for new content, while the Home tab replicates the interface displayed on the Fire TV device connected to your television.
Amazon states that the objective of the new Fire TV app is to serve as a secondary screen for content discovery. Users will be able to add titles to their watchlist directly through the phone app and later access them on the larger screen. It’s important to note that this is a feature the Google TV app has offered for a considerable time.
Although the redesigned Fire TV interface on televisions is currently exclusive to the U.S. and only available on select devices, the new mobile app update is rolling out more broadly.
The updated Fire TV app is currently available in the U.S., Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the U.K. You will need the latest version of the Fire TV app from the Google Play Store.
