Amazon is launching a phone for the first time in over a decade. According to a Reuters report, four insiders have revealed that the new phone, called “Transformer,” aims to be a “mobile personalization device” that integrates with Amazon’s Alexa. The phone is intended to streamline the use of various Amazon services, including shopping, streaming Prime Video, and listening to Prime Music. While details about the phone’s launch date, pricing, and expected revenue remain unknown, the phone is reportedly still in its early development stages. The endeavor comes years after the short-lived Fire Phone, which Amazon withdrew from the market after about a year. The company hopes the new phone will perform better, especially given the advances in artificial intelligence since the Fire Phone’s failed attempt.
