Amazon Unveils Healthcare AI Assistant on Website and App

2 Min Read

Amazon revealed on Tuesday that it is broadening the availability of its healthcare AI assistant to both its website and app. Previously only accessible through the One Medical app, which Amazon acquired for $3.9 billion in 2023, Health AI now offers a range of features. It can answer health questions, explain medical records, manage prescriptions, and book appointments. Amazon confirms that users do not need to be Prime subscribers or One Medical members to utilize the assistant.

Though Health AI can address general questions without access to personal medical data, it is crafted to serve as a customized health assistant offering specific advice and connections to healthcare professionals and treatments. However, there are concerns about sharing personal health data with AI. Researchers caution that companies might use conversations for training purposes.

Amazon’s press release explains that Health AI models are trained on abstract patterns without identifiable data. For example, patterns from queries about medication interactions can help refine responses while preserving anonymity. Amazon assures that interactions occur in a HIPAA-compliant environment with encryption and strict access controls, though specifics on encryption and access remain undisclosed.

Granting Health AI access to your health details is facilitated through the Health Information Exchange, a secure nationwide system for sharing medical data. The assistant can analyze lab results, diagnoses, and records to deliver precise, personalized responses regarding symptoms and medications.

If professional care is required, Health AI can link users to a One Medical provider. Prime members in the U.S. receive up to five complimentary direct-message care consultations for over 30 conditions, including colds, allergies, and more. Non-Prime members have a pay-per-visit option to access One Medical providers.

Users can register for Health AI on the Amazon Health page. As access expands, registered users will receive an email notification. Once they have access, users set up or log into their Amazon Health profile to begin using Health AI by posing health questions through Amazon.com or the app.

Questions like “What do my recent cholesterol results mean?” or “I have congestion and a sore throat. What should I do?” can be submitted for tailored advice. This expansion coincides with other AI advances in healthcare, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT Health and Anthropic’s Claude for Healthcare, launched in January 2026.
