Late last year, New York Assembly member Alex Bores faced opposition from a pro-AI super PAC aiming to derail his congressional campaign. The group, Leading the Future, is backed by over $100 million from supporters such as Andreessen Horowitz, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, AI search startup Perplexity, and Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale.
Bores’ reaction was straightforward: bring it on. Now, he has the support to reinforce that challenge.
Public First Action, a PAC supported by a $20 million donation from Anthropic, is allocating $450,000 to support Bores in the race for New York’s 12th congressional district, as reported by Bloomberg. Like its competitor, the committee is pro-AI but promotes a different perspective focused on transparency, safety standards, and public oversight.
Meanwhile, the industry-supported PAC, Leading the Future, has already invested $1.1 million in ads opposing Bores, primarily because he sponsored New York’s RAISE Act, which mandates major AI developers to disclose safety protocols and report serious misuse of their systems.
