Apple’s upcoming major media event will be the unveiling of the iPhone 17 this fall. However, another eagerly awaited product is said to be launching soon, perhaps even before that. A new AirTag 2 is on its way; here’s everything we know.
### AirTag 2 Anticipated to Launch in the Coming Two Months
Apple experienced a bustling product launch season earlier this year, with the M4 MacBook Air, iPhone 16e, and others making their debut. Yet, one rumored product that has yet to surface is AirTag 2. After years without a hardware successor, the new AirTag is finally set to launch shortly.
Here’s what Mark Gurman shared last month:

Initially, we anticipated a release around the middle of this year. That still remains a possibility, as Apple could very well introduce AirTag 2 through a press release. No significant media event is necessary.
It was previously noted that code for iOS 18.6 suggests new compatibility for AirTag 2. That software update is likely to roll out within the next month—so AirTag 2 might be available then as well. Some sources indicate that Apple is now aiming for a September launch alongside the iPhone 17. That certainly seems feasible.
I suspect, however, that Apple’s keynote will already feature four new iPhones, Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple Watch Series 11, and perhaps AirPods Pro 3. In any case, AirTag 2 is expected to debut sometime in the next couple of months.
### New Features Speculated for AirTag 2

According to Mark Gurman, AirTag 2 will “look similar to the existing model,” so do not anticipate a significant design alteration. Apple may have additional updates in the pipeline, but thus far, this is all we’re anticipating.
