# Upcoming macOS Enhancements and Apple’s Mac Range
With WWDC approaching, the forthcoming macOS enhancements are set to spark renewed enthusiasm for Apple’s Mac range. Whether you’re purchasing your first Mac or replacing an older model, here’s the scoop on what’s on the horizon.
Apple has recently introduced the [M4 MacBook Air](https://www.amazon.com/Apple-2025-MacBook-15-inch-Laptop/dp/B0DZDBQD4K/?tag=marcmendes-20), along with updated [Mac Studio](https://9to5mac.com/2025/03/05/apple-launches-new-mac-studio-with-m4-max-and-m3-ultra-configs-more/) configurations now available with M3 Ultra or M4 Max processors. These additions complement last year’s M4-enabled [MacBook Pro](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DLHBYRPS/?tag=marcmendes-20), [iMac](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DL76BQ5N/?tag=marcmendes-20), and [Mac mini](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DLBTPDCS/?tag=marcmendes-20) updates.
In the coming months, Apple is anticipated to extend its Apple Silicon rollout across the remaining lineup, including the launch of the M5 chip. Here’s what to look forward to before the year’s end based on the most recent speculation:
## MacBook Pro
As reported by *Bloomberg*’s Mark Gurman, Apple is poised to commence the M5 series with new MacBook Pro models [this fall](https://9to5mac.com/2025/05/03/apple-m5-macbook-pro-rumor-roundup/), followed by M5 iPad Pros expected in the early half of 2026.
The M5 chip is forecasted to utilize TSMC’s third-generation 3nm fabrication, instead of the earlier suggested 2nm. A significant hardware overhaul is also not on the cards for this year, appearing instead to be scheduled for 2026.
The existing [MacBook Pro](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DLHBYRPS/?tag=marcmendes-20) series was last refreshed in October 2024, making it reasonable to anticipate a release around the same time this year.
## iMac
iMac updates have historically lacked a consistent schedule, making timing unpredictable. Apple updated the [24-inch iMac](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DL76BQ5N/?tag=marcmendes-20) last year, and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has [indicated](https://9to5mac.com/2023/10/17/kuo-no-imac-refresh-in-2023-32-inch-imac-with-mini-led-coming-in-2025/) that a larger 32-inch mini-LED variant could be released in 2025. Specifically, he noted a potential launch between late 2024 and 2025, which keeps us within that timeframe.
However, if you’re not particularly waiting for a larger display, it may be a good opportunity to make a purchase. A redesigned or M5-equipped variant is unlikely to appear until much later in the cycle, as Apple has previously bypassed chip generations with the iMac.
## Mac Pro
While other models have transitioned to M3 or M4, the [Mac Pro](https://9to5mac.com/guides/mac-pro/) remains uncertain, still reliant on the mid-2023 M2 Ultra.
A refresh for the Mac Pro has been [speculated](https://9to5mac.com/2024/08/08/gurman-heres-when-to-expect-m4-mac-studio-mac-pro-and-macbook-air-updates/) for mid-2025, though the specifics of its chip are unclear. Upon upgrading the Mac Studio with the M4 Max and an unexpected M3 Ultra, Apple informed reviewers that not every chip release would feature an Ultra-grade option.
Whether this suggests that the Mac Studio will miss out on an M4 Ultra, or if there won’t be an M4 Ultra in general, is still unknown. It seems logical for the Mac Pro to acquire an M4 Ultra, but the Mac Pro has often been shrouded in confusion.
If you’ve been deferring until now to acquire a Mac Pro, it might be wise to remain patient a little longer as we approach mid-2025. However, don’t be astonished if, in a few weeks, that rumor shifts to late-2025 or afterwards. It wouldn’t be the first occasion.
