Apple Notifies Suppliers of Expected Rise in iPhone Sales Next Year Owing to New Foldable Model

Apple is said to be preparing its supply chain for a noteworthy rise in iPhone sales next year, aiming for around 95 million units for the iPhone 18 models in 2026. This estimate signifies a 10% uptick from the 85 million units expected for the iPhone 17 release in 2025. The upcoming lineup, featuring the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air 2, and the highly anticipated iPhone Fold, is projected to launch in the fall.

The debut of the foldable iPhone is anticipated to spark substantial excitement, potentially leading to a “halo effect” where the appeal of the new model motivates upgrades throughout the entire iPhone 18 lineup. While some buyers may be attracted to the cutting-edge design of the foldable device, others are expected to prefer the classic slab-style iPhone 18.

Apple’s preliminary sales estimates serve as benchmarks for its supply chain collaborators, enabling them to align their resources accordingly. Nonetheless, the company is recognized for its adaptability in modifying order quantities based on actual customer demand, whether that entails ramping up or scaling back production.

In addition to its preparations for the iPhone 18 launch, Apple is also set to commence trial production of the iPhone Fold at a facility in Taiwan. After completing quality assessments and scaling resources, the company plans to establish this production line in India. This transition is part of Apple’s overarching strategy to diversify its manufacturing sites; nearly all iPhones sold in the U.S. are now produced in Indian assembly plants, a change driven by tariff regulations, while international sales mainly come from production facilities in China.
