Apple is poised to reveal iOS 27 on June 8 at WWDC, with new features and improvements anticipated, especially concerning Siri. A report by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg indicates that considerable changes are forthcoming for Apple’s voice assistant.
### Siri Will Collaborate with More AI Chatbot Applications via Extension
Since the launch of iOS 18 in 2024, Siri has been integrated with ChatGPT. Initially, Apple intended to add more AI providers, including Google Gemini, but this plan was ultimately shelved. Instead, Apple established a collaboration with Google to leverage its Gemini AI models for forthcoming Siri features linked to Personal Intelligence and in-app management. Although these features are yet to debut, their arrival is expected soon.
In a departure from forging individual agreements with AI providers, Apple is set to introduce an Extensions system in Siri. This will enable various AI chatbots to work harmoniously with Siri. For example, Anthropic’s Claude app could be utilized alongside Siri, while Apple continues its existing partnership with Google for Gemini AI models.
### iPhone, iPad, and Mac Will Accommodate the New Feature
The new Extensions system will be accessible across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. Gurman shared a fragment from a test version of the operating systems, indicating, “Extensions enable agents from installed apps to collaborate with Siri, the Siri app and other functionalities on your devices.” Users will be guided to a new section in the App Store to incorporate additional AI services.
To make use of the new Siri integration, AI chatbot applications will require updates following the official announcement of the system. Additionally, with the recent rollout of iOS 26.4, AI chatbots can now work with CarPlay, though developers must also update their applications to utilize this capability.
Gurman has also disclosed that Apple aims to advance Siri’s capabilities to function more like an AI chatbot in iOS 27. The company is even experimenting with a standalone Siri app, which will support the new extension system.
As the WWDC event draws near, excitement grows regarding how these updates will reshape the user experience and enhance Siri’s functions within the Apple ecosystem.
