Apple Unveils Budget-Friendly MacBook Neo with iPhone Chip Power

1 Min Read

The basic MacBook model could allow Apple to better compete against Chromebooks and affordable Windows laptops.

Apple recently revealed a new entry-level MacBook, leveraging the same A18 Pro chip introduced two years ago in the iPhone 16 series, starting at $599. With older M-series MacBooks being phased out, it provides a more economical choice that competes with Windows and ChromeOS devices, while utilizing hardware already in mass production for other products.

The Neo features a 13-inch display, 8GB of RAM, storage options of 256GB or 512GB, a Magic Keyboard, multi-touch trackpad, 1080p camera, two USB-C ports, a headphone jack, and new side-firing speakers that support spatial audio and Dolby Atmos. It is available in four colors: silver, indigo, blush, and citrus, each featuring a matching keyboard.

The MacBook Neo’s launch comes years after Apple discontinued its 12-inch MacBook in 2019, which reduced the MacBook lineup to just Air and Pro models. The classic white MacBook discontinued in 2012, also occupied a similar budget-friendly position in the Mac family. The Neo’s lower starting price is particularly enticing, especially after the recent announcement of the M5 MacBook Air, which has a higher starting price than its predecessor.
