In Australia, Brazil, and Singapore, users cannot download apps rated 18-plus without age confirmation.
Apple has introduced age verification features due to new age check requirements in many regions. On Tuesday, the company detailed tools for developers to meet age assurance obligations under upcoming U.S. and regional laws, including Brazil, Australia, Singapore, Utah, and Louisiana.
A significant update requires users in Australia, Brazil, and Singapore to verify their age to download 18-plus apps through “reasonable methods,” which the App Store can automatically confirm. Developers may still need to confirm users are adults and can use Appleās Declared Age Range API, introduced last year, for age range information.
Additionally, from May 6th in Utah and July 1st in Louisiana, new Apple Account users will have age categories shared with developers’ apps through the Declared Age Range API.
Developers now have “new signals” available through the API, including information on age-related regulatory requirements and whether users must share their age range. The API will also indicate if parental permission is needed for significant app updates for a child.
