The latest firmware update for the Studio Display has uncovered these two separate chip variations, validating previous speculations regarding the hardware distinctions. The main upgrades in the new models entail support for Thunderbolt 5, alongside enhancements to the camera, speakers, and microphones. However, the necessity of the A19 chip in the standard Studio Display still seems somewhat ambiguous, considering that the essential updates do not appear to require such processing strength.
On the other hand, the Studio Display XDR’s superior chip is warranted by its extra features, including the mini-LED backlight, which necessitates enhanced computational power for effective management. This variation in hardware corresponds with the broader technological progressions between the two models.
