Battery Swelling Returns to Trouble Pixel Users

While the majority of reports focus on the Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7 users are starting to encounter similar problems as well. Google’s response has varied, with some users receiving complimentary fixes and others facing challenges in obtaining support.
This year has posed difficulties for Google regarding Pixel smartphones and battery-related concerns. The company has recognized battery issues with the Pixel 6a, where some devices have caught fire, and the Pixel 7a, which prompted a repair initiative due to swelling problems. Now, users of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are also reporting issues with battery expansion.
Reports of swollen batteries among Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro users have risen notably. Users have turned to Google’s official support forum and platforms such as X/Twitter and Reddit to voice their concerns. This issue is not entirely unprecedented; in May 2025, a Pixel 7 Pro owner mentioned on Google’s forums that the side panel of their device had begun to separate due to a swollen battery. This post garnered considerable attention, with many other users affirming similar problems with their Pixel 7 Pro devices.
Up to now, most reports seem to be related to the Pixel 7 Pro, although some Pixel 7 users have also reported the issue. Google’s response has varied. Some users assert they have received free battery repairs or full replacement units, and one even claimed Google reimbursed them for a third-party repair. Conversely, several customers indicate they are having difficulty receiving any substantial response from Google’s support team.
Regrettably, this isn’t the first instance of Pixel phones being involved in such disputes. Google already operates a complimentary battery replacement program for Pixel 7a devices, but now it seems the issue has spread to other models within the Pixel 7 series. Fortunately, there have yet to be any reports of a Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro catching fire.
