ByteDance has halted its plans to launch the global release of its new AI video model, as reported by The Information.
The company, known as the parent of TikTok and a minority shareholder in its U.S. spinoff, introduced Seedance 2.0 in China in February. The model’s generated videos, including a popular clip of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt fighting, quickly gained attention and criticism from Hollywood.
A prominent screenwriter claimed the footage implied dire consequences for their industry, while studios issued numerous cease-and-desist letters to ByteDance. Disney’s legal team accused the company of infringing on intellectual property. ByteDance promised to strengthen safeguards for intellectual property.
The Information reported that ByteDance intended to release Seedance 2.0 globally by mid-March but has postponed the launch to address potential legal challenges. ByteDance did not provide a comment to TechCrunch.
