What is Connections?
The NYT’s latest daily word game has become a social media hit. The Times credits associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu with creating the new word game for the publication’s Games section. Connections can be played on web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to group four words that share something in common.
Each puzzle features 16 words, divided into four categories. These can include anything from book titles, software, country names, etc. Although multiple words may appear to fit together, only one correct answer exists. If players correctly group all four words, those words are removed from the board; wrong guesses count as a mistake—players have up to four mistakes before the game ends.
Players can rearrange the board to spot connections more easily. Each group is color-coded, with yellow as the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, results can be shared with friends on social media.
