Apple’s previous redesign of the MacBook Pro took place in 2021, and whispers suggest that the next comprehensive design is expected in late 2026, featuring touch support and much more. Here’s why my excitement for Apple’s upcoming MacBook Pro upgrade has reached new heights.
## Two new MacBook Pro models may debut in 2026, but the M6 version is what I’m looking forward to
Recently, Apple news has centered heavily around the iPhone 17, iPhone Air, AirPods Pro 3, and other fresh devices. However, a recent report concerning the 2026 MacBook Pro has redirected my focus to the Mac.
Current speculation suggests that Apple might introduce two MacBook Pro models in 2026: an M5 variant in early 2026 and a significant M6 overhaul in the autumn. The M5 is anticipated to primarily be a spec enhancement of the current MacBook Pro design, which will be advantageous for many users. Nonetheless, it’s the M6 that truly excites me.
I’ve previously discussed how the M6 MacBook Pro holds the potential to be one of the largest updates in Apple’s Mac history. Now, with this week’s touch screen speculation from a trustworthy source, I’m even more convinced this will come to fruition.
Here’s a summary of the features anticipated for the M6 MacBook Pro.
## All the rumored features for the M6 MacBook Pro
Bloomberg has disclosed that the M6 MacBook Pro will provide a ‘total redesign’ that is thinner and lighter than the existing model. While “thinner and lighter” may raise concerns for veteran MacBook Pro users, I believe Apple will achieve the right balance this time.
This new MacBook Pro will also include the first OLED display ever seen in a Mac. It’s expected to completely eliminate the notch cutout, resulting in a truly all-screen appearance.
I understand that many Mac users do not mind the notch, but it’s always been an issue for me. Unlike the iPhone’s notch, which faded from my perception shortly after I began using an iPhone X, the Mac’s notch continues to stand out to me after years of usage. As a daily user of the M4 iPad Pro with its stunning OLED display, I am eagerly anticipating an OLED upgrade for Mac laptops.
Performance is another domain where the new MacBook Pro could shine. Apple’s M6 chip is presumed to be manufactured using TSMC’s latest 2-nanometer technology. Based on previous chip packaging advancements, this could lead to unusually significant year-over-year improvements.
Rumors persist about Apple incorporating cellular connectivity into the Mac. According to earlier Bloomberg reports, it appears that an upcoming C2 modem may be destined for the M6 MacBook Pro. Cellular capability on the Mac has long been a feature I aspire to have. I utilize the cellular function on my iPad Pro daily, and I am eager for its introduction on the Mac.
Finally, what once seemed like the most unpredictable feature for the M6 MacBook Pro now appears likely: Apple is reportedly set to introduce touch support for the first time. Yes, a touchscreen Mac is on the way. At last.
## M6 MacBook Pro: a new chapter for the Mac
I’ve enjoyed using the iPad Pro as my main computer for the past decade. However, I still possess and regularly use Macs, and at times, I wish the Mac suited me better. The upcoming MacBook Pro sounds like the device that could change that. With all the rumored modifications, the new MacBook Pro will undoubtedly mark one of the most significant updates in the Mac’s history. And particularly with touch support, it feels like the dawn of a new chapter for the Mac.
