Conan O’Brien Channels Weapons Aunt Gladys in Glorious Oscars Cold Open

2 Min Read

Conan O’Brien embraced his inner Aunt Gladys, played by Oscar winner Amy Madigan, to begin the 98th Academy Awards.

In a pre-recorded segment, the host of the Oscars sported the villain’s recognizable red wig and clown makeup from the film “Weapons” before being pursued to the Dolby Theater by a group of kids. During his journey, he made various stops through 2025’s Oscar-nominated films. He dashed across the racetrack in “F1,” played a ping pong match against Timothée Chalamet in “Marty Supreme,” stormed the stage during “Hamnet’s” emotional climax, rode with Benicio del Toro in “One Battle After Another,” and even pleaded with the characters from “Sinners,” Smoke and Stack, played by Michael B. Jordan, to enter their juke joint.

Additionally, he learned Norwegian to be chided by Stellan Skarsgård in “Sentimental Value.” O’Brien might have briefly regretted learning a new language, but the effort was commendable. Unlike in “Weapons,” O’Brien’s Aunt Gladys survived. He appeared on the Oscars stage unharmed, though wigless.
