Currently, smartphone accessory brands such as KraftGeek and Belkin are once again reimagining the design of their portable power banks with MagSafe compatibility, Bluetooth camera triggers, and functionality as phone stands.
The magnetic power bank stands from Belkin and KraftGeek have a shared foundation. While there are distinctions between the two models, the most significant is the cost. The Belkin Stage PowerGrip is priced at $79.99, whereas the significantly more budget-friendly KraftGeek PowerShutter retails for $36.99. KraftGeek’s model is priced at less than half of the Belkin device.
The Belkin Stage PowerGrip offers a notably higher capacity of 9,300mAh, but it is also 67 grams heavier. Conversely, the KraftGeek PowerShutter provides a more modest capacity of 5,000mAh.
Both the Belkin Stage PowerGrip and KraftGeek PowerShutter feature magnetic pads for mounting any MagSafe or magnetic Qi2 phone. Additionally, both accessories function as phone holders, enabling usage in landscape and portrait mode.
You can connect your phone to either power bank stand via Bluetooth, utilizing the camera shutter button to take pictures. This method of capturing photos and videos is particularly convenient for those who have used digital cameras and DSLRs previously.
The inclusion of a 1/4-inch threaded hole allows you to attach your phone to any standard tripod, negating the need for a separate stand or mount specifically for your phone.
How does Belkin account for the price difference? At $79.99, the Belkin Stage PowerGrip is double the cost of the KraftGeek PowerShutter. In addition to the increased battery capacity, you receive more color choices, a built-in USB-C cable, lanyard holes, and an LED display that shows battery levels and connection status.
The camera stand from Belkin also offers enhanced functionality. You can toggle between photo and video modes on your phone using the shutter button. Moreover, you have the option to turn off wireless charging, preventing the Belkin Stage PowerGrip from unnecessarily depleting its battery during use.
With KraftGeek, you’re getting what you pay for. Unfortunately, with KraftGeek’s option, there’s no way to disable the wireless charging feature, which means it’s continuously charging your phone wirelessly when in use. This, along with the smaller battery, results in faster depletion compared to Belkin’s power bank stand.
Additionally, the shutter button on the KraftGeek PowerShutter does not allow you to switch between photo and video modes.
However, there are bonuses included in the package that make up for these limitations. A USB-C charging cable and a magnetic adapter ring are included.
Recharging the KraftGeek PowerShutter can take some time due to its 18W wired charging speed. Nevertheless, it’s still quicker than Belkin’s slower 15W wired charging speed.
KraftGeek earns my endorsement when it comes to comfort. It is noticeably lighter, and I appreciate its slightly softer faux leather grip.
Belkin Stage PowerGrip vs KraftGeek PowerShutter: Which one should you choose? In terms of performance, the Belkin Stage PowerGrip offers considerably longer usage than the KraftGeek PowerShutter, giving it a significant advantage. The prolonged battery life alone justifies the extra expenditure, making it ideal for vacations and trips where you need to capture numerous photos and videos without battery concerns.
Furthermore, being able to turn off the wireless charging on the Belkin camera stand power bank helps conserve power rather than waste it unnecessarily. Although the built-in Type-C cable can be slightly cumbersome to use, its convenience means you don’t have to hassle with packing an additional cable.
At $36.99, the KraftGeek PowerShutter is truly a bargain. It is an excellent alternative to the more upscale Belkin Stage PowerGrip. However, if you have the budget to spare an additional $43, the $79.99 Belkin option is likely to bring you greater satisfaction!
