Databricks, a company renowned for its cloud data analytics platform, has announced a new security product called Lakewatch. This product extends Databricks’ data storage capabilities to perform Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tasks using AI agents powered by Anthropic’s Claude.
This launch follows Databricks’ recent acquisitions of two startups, Antimatter and SiftD.ai. The Antimatter deal was closed last year, while the SiftD.ai acquisition completed recently. Although the terms of these deals have not been disclosed, Antimatter, founded by Andrew Krioukov, previously raised $12 million in 2022.
SiftD.ai, a young startup, launched its product as an interactive notebook aimed to enhance collaboration between humans and agents. The connection to Databricks came through SiftD.ai’s co-founder CEO Steve Zhang, who was known to the Databricks team from his tenure at Splunk.
The acquisitions involve small startups, with Antimatter having less than 50 employees and SiftD.ai being even smaller. Antimatter’s technology, demonstrated at RSA’s Innovation Sandbox Contest, focuses on a “data control plane” for secure agent deployment.
Databricks confirmed that employees from both startups have joined their team, with Krioukov leading the Lakewatch initiative. The company continues to seek new opportunities to address gaps in customer needs and maintain a market-leading position.
