Easily Transfer Your Chats and Personal Information to Gemini from Other Chatbots

In the competitive AI chatbot market, companies are vying for user engagement. In an effort to grow its user base, Google has simplified the process for users to switch to its Gemini chatbot from other platforms. On Thursday, Google introduced “switching tools,” featuring widgets that let users transfer their “memories” — comprising personal data and entire chat histories — to Gemini. This approach allows users to share key preferences and context seamlessly.

The aim is to facilitate an easier transition to Google’s AI, saving users from re-training Gemini about themselves. The memory transfer allows Gemini to understand users by suggesting prompts for their current chatbots, which generate responses that users can paste back into Gemini. This process allows Google to help users transmit their information effectively.

After importing memories, Gemini can recognize important details such as a user’s interests or background, expediting the adjustment process. For chat history transfers, Google supports zip file uploads from competitors like ChatGPT and Claude, enabling continuity and searchability in conversations.

Currently, ChatGPT leads the consumer chatbot market with 900 million weekly active users. Despite Google’s strong presence via Android and Chrome, Gemini isn’t as prominent. Recently, Google reported Gemini had over 750 million monthly active users, indicating this initiative aims to boost its competitive edge.
