Instagram has released a long-requested update allowing users to edit comments. Announced on Thursday, this update lets users fix typographical errors without the need to delete and re-post. However, edits can only be made within a 15-minute window after posting, though users can make unlimited changes within that time. Edited comments are marked as such, but the original text remains hidden, unlike apps such as iMessage which show edit history. Only text can be edited; any accompanying photos remain unchanged. While seemingly minor, this update aligns with Instagram’s efforts to improve user satisfaction and resolve ongoing issues. Some users had already noticed the feature being tested, with widespread positive feedback online. Concurrently, Instagram is implementing content restrictions for teens, reflecting heightened concerns about the platform’s influence on young users. This comes after Meta faced legal challenges, with recent court decisions in New Mexico and Los Angeles holding the company accountable for child safety issues and app design deemed to be harmful to minors’ mental health. Numerous lawsuits are pending, and legal action from 40 state attorneys general is underway.
