EFF to Leave X

EFF to Leave X

1 Min Read

The non-profit organization Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has announced it will stop posting on the platform X starting Thursday. This decision is due to a significant drop in views on the platform over recent years. In a blog post, EFF’s social media manager, Kenyatta Thomas, noted that their posts used to receive 50 to 100 million impressions per month on X, but this is no longer the case. Last year, EFF’s 1,500 posts received about 13 million impressions in total, a sharp decline from previous figures.

The blog post also mentioned that changes in the culture and policies of X contributed to the decision. EFF had previously suggested several improvements to the platform when Elon Musk took ownership in 2022, such as more transparent content moderation and stronger security, but these changes haven’t been realized. Thomas remarked that many users have already left X, and now EFF is doing the same.

Nevertheless, EFF will continue to share content related to digital privacy and free speech on other social media platforms, including Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
