The partnership between Epic Games and Disney deepens following Disney’s $1.5 billion investment in Epic. Starting Thursday, Fortnite creators can make custom Star Wars-themed games and experiences, with publishing available from May 1st. Since the Unreal Editor for Fortnite’s release, Epic has introduced various franchises like Lego, Squid Game, and KPop Demon Hunters. Epic’s long-standing relationship with Star Wars includes various collaborations, with creators required to give Disney 20% of their payout share for Star Wars-themed islands. Epic’s tools allow creators to use iconic Star Wars characters, vehicles, and weapons in their experiences. After Disney’s investment, the companies are developing a “persistent universe” tied to Fortnite. Epic also launches a new battle royale season called Showdown, featuring Bugs Bunny and Dwayne Johnson’s Fortnite character, and makes the game available globally on Android, while raising V-Bucks prices due to operating costs.
