Epic Attributes Fortnite V-bucks Price Hike to Operating Costs

1 Min Read

Epic Games announced this week that Fortnite’s in-game V-bucks currency will become more expensive, citing increased operating costs as the reason for the price hike. The new pricing takes effect on March 19th, coinciding with the debut of the next Fortnite season. While users have voiced concerns over the increase, an Epic staffer acknowledged the feedback on Reddit.

At the GDC Festival of Gaming, The Verge asked Epic executives for more details on the price raise, but they didn’t provide much beyond what was previously stated. Andre Balta, Epic’s senior director of ecosystem growth, indicated that the decision was mainly due to operating costs. However, he didn’t specify the magnitude of the cost changes.

Currently, $8.99 purchases 1,000 V-bucks, but post-change, it’ll only supply 800 V-bucks. Other pack prices will similarly yield smaller V-bucks quantities. The last V-bucks price adjustment was in 2023.

Steve Allison, GM of the Epic Games Store, mentioned significant investments in the ecosystem, with several exciting developments expected over the next 6 to 12 months.
