# Unleashing the Complete Capabilities of the Apple Wallet App

One of the most overlooked and unappreciated applications within the Apple ecosystem is undoubtedly the Wallet app. Consider this: what other application do we anticipate functioning flawlessly every time? We depend on it to make transactions, store our boarding passes, manage sensitive financial information, and even unlock our vehicles with total precision and reliability. These are just a few examples of how impactful the Wallet app can be when you understand how to maximize its usage.

This article presents a comprehensive guide on the most effective ways to utilize your Apple Wallet in various situations, including some fresh enhancements introduced in iOS 26 and its integration with the Apple Card.

## Express Transit

This feature is arguably one of the most useful ever created. Typically, to activate Apple Pay, you must double-tap the lock button and select your default card or opt for another card for payment. But what if you find yourself in a city and need to quickly pay at a turnstile, or wish to use a different card that isn’t your primary option for transit fares? That’s precisely what express transit offers. You can enable this feature in your settings and designate your transit payment credit card. So the next time you approach a payment terminal turnstile, just tap your phone. No Face ID, Touch ID, or double-tapping is necessary.

Here’s how:

1. Navigate to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > Express Transit Card.
2. Select the transit card you’ve added (or first add a new one).
3. Hold your iPhone or Apple Watch close to the reader to board instantly.

## Advanced Boarding Passes

iOS 26 introduces several new functionalities to the Wallet app. The most notable enhancement will be more advanced boarding passes. You will now receive real-time updates on gate changes, flight statuses, airport maps, and even luggage tracking using Find My. Additionally, you can share live flight updates with friends or family so they are updated on your landing time. A wonderful improvement is that with iOS 26, you will have a refreshed CarPlay experience, enabling live activities. Thus, if you are picking someone up from the airport, you can track their arrival directly from your car using the new CarPlay!

## Retrieve Card Numbers in the Wallet App

Another fantastic quality-of-life improvement arriving in iOS 26 is the capability to securely store your actual credit card numbers in the Wallet app. When you added a new credit card to your Wallet app, you had to enter the credit card number, but that information wouldn’t be saved or easily accessible. Having that number available in the Wallet app will be transformative, and it’s finally on the way!

Here’s how to do it:

1. Open Wallet and tap the card.
2. Tap the three dots (…) in the corner and select card details.
3. Choose Card Information → authenticate with Face ID.
4. Tap Add Physical Card Information.

## Rearrange Cards and Designate Default Card

People frequently ask me how they can rearrange their cards in the Apple Wallet. This applies to your cards as well as all your loyalty cards and other digital cards you have installed. You simply long-press the card you wish to move and drag it to your desired location. Keep in mind that the card positioned at the bottom, being the most visible, will serve as your default card. Therefore, if you shift a card from the middle to the bottom and it’s fully visible, that will become your primary method of payment.
