Pocket, the popular read-it-later platform, has declared its shutdown, effective July 8, 2025. This decision signifies the conclusion of a significant period for the service that enabled users to save articles on both web and mobile interfaces. After the closure, Pocket will enter an export-only phase lasting until October 8, 2025, at which point all user information will be permanently erased.
Users have been informed about the announcement through pop-up notifications and an official communication on Mozilla’s support page. Acquired by Mozilla in 2017, Pocket has been essential for users aiming to efficiently organize their reading lists. Nevertheless, the company cites the changing habits of web consumption as the rationale behind this change in direction.
Starting from July 8, users will no longer be able to save additional articles, and the service will stop accepting new premium subscriptions. Current subscribers will automatically have their subscriptions canceled and refunded prior to the shutdown date.
