The Supreme Court has not indicated when or if customers should receive refunds. FedEx intends to provide reimbursements if they receive a refund from the Supreme Court’s decision that some of President Trump’s tariffs are “illegal.” Although no refund process is currently established by the courts, FedEx will compensate shippers and customers impacted by tariffs if they recover their money, as stated on their website. This announcement followed FedEx’s lawsuit in the US Court of International Trade seeking a “full refund” of tariff payments from the Trump administration. FedEx covers duties and tariffs for customers upon package arrival in the US but later bills them for these costs. “Our intent is straightforward: if FedEx receives refunds, we will refund shippers and consumers who originally incurred those charges,” FedEx stated. “The timing and process for requesting and issuing refunds will depend on future government and court guidance.” The Supreme Court recently ruled that Trump’s levies under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) exceeded his presidential powers, affecting imports from China, Canada, and Mexico. Following this ruling, Trump introduced a new tariff under the Trade Act of 1974. Over 1,000 companies, including Costco, Revlon, and Dyson, have filed lawsuits in the US Court of International Trade seeking refunds for Trump’s tariffs, according to reports from NBC News and CBS.
