Google has been developing its Gemini 2.5 model series publicly, with various preview iterations rolling out over recent months. Today, the company announced that stable versions of Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash are now ready for public access. These versions are generally available to users within the Gemini app, as well as in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI.
In conjunction with these updates, Google unveiled Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite today, June 17. The preview edition of Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite is now ready for evaluation, serving as a new alternative to Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, which was released earlier this year. According to Google, Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite is “our most cost-efficient and swiftest 2.5 model to date.”
In comparison with other Gemini 2.5 models, the Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite preview emphasizes efficiency and cost effectiveness. Although it does not compete as well as Gemini 2.5 Pro or Flash, it still performs adequately in benchmark analyses. Additionally, it is significantly more economical to operate than the superior Gemini 2 models.
