### Gentler Streak Introduces a New Health Metric for Runners
Beginning today, Gentler Streak users can now access VO₂ max estimate data, accompanied by trends and averages, offering a more thorough perspective on their fitness levels. This enhancement is part of Gentler Stories’ ongoing initiatives to improve the user experience for casual fitness enthusiasts.
Recently, Gentler Stories refreshed its app, The Outsiders, which emphasizes power-based training, by adding four advanced metrics designed to assist athletes in better comprehending their workout intensity, pacing, and efficiency. Now, Gentler Streak, known for its accessible approach to fitness, has included cardio fitness data within its platform.
The update is now live on the App Store, incorporating VO₂ max estimate data into the Wellbeing section of the Streak tab. VO₂ max serves as a crucial indicator of how effectively the body uses oxygen during physical activity. It not only affects workout performance but also plays a role in daily energy levels and long-term health durability. Research consistently indicates that improved cardio fitness is linked to a reduced risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and premature death.
Gentler Streak leverages data from Apple Health, which calculates cardio fitness based on tracked outdoor activities like running, hiking, and walking. This information is gathered from various sensors, such as heart rate, motion, barometric, and GPS sensors. The app displays this data in a meaningful manner, progressing beyond merely showing the last recorded figure.
It is crucial to acknowledge that the VO₂ max estimates are typically more precise for users who participate in running. Walkers might initially observe elevated VO₂ max estimates that are expected to decrease as they integrate running into their routines.
Aligned with its goal of fostering healthy habits and overall well-being, Gentler Streak highlights the significance of VO₂ max trends rather than concentrating on a solitary number. Katarina Lotrič, Co-founder and CEO of Gentler Stories, elaborates on the reasoning behind this strategy: “We consciously opted not to make the number the focal point here. A single VO₂ max measurement from a consumer device doesn’t provide much insight, and in many instances, it may not even be accurate. However, what conveys a narrative is the trend: its direction and what appears to be influencing it. Over time, you might begin to observe correlations between your behavior and your cardio fitness, and that’s where valuable insights can be gained.”
Gentler Streak is offered for free on the App Store, featuring in-app purchases that include monthly, yearly, family, and lifetime subscriptions. This update signifies a major improvement for users seeking to uncover deeper insights into their fitness journey.
