World, established by Sam Altman, focuses on developing “proof of human” technology for ID verification amid a rise in AI-generated content. Notably, Altman’s OpenAI has faced criticism for contributing to this content issue, suggesting his foresight with World. Tools for Humanity (TFH), the parent company of World, introduced a beta verification tool this week aimed at enhancing agentic commerce, where AI assists users with online shopping.
AI-driven consumer activities promise convenience but also pose risks like fraud and spam. To address this, World launched AgentKit, a software tool for websites to verify human involvement in AI-prompted transactions. AgentKit hinges on World ID, validated through World’s Orb device, which scans users’ eyes to create a unique digital code. This ID integrates with the x402 protocol by Coinbase and Cloudflare, facilitating automated non-human interventions.
World remarks that AgentKit complements x402 v2, allowing websites using the protocol to activate human verification alongside micropayments. TFH’s Chief Product Officer Tiago Sada equates this feature to granting “power of attorney” to AI, establishing trust in AI-directed activities. The beta version of AgentKit seeks developer feedback for further enhancement, requiring a verified World ID from users.
The launch is timely as major entities like Amazon and MasterCard explore agentic commerce, reflecting the industry’s need for reliability. By advancing these tools, World aims to lead in providing essential security measures within the burgeoning domain.
