Starting with tasks like ordering food or rides, Gemini can now handle multi-step processes on phones. Initially available on Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S26, it mirrors features Apple announced for Siri in 2024 before delaying them in 2025. During a demonstration, Google’s Android president Sameer Samat showcased Gemini managing a family pizza order using a group chat to determine preferences before ordering via a delivery app. Although not overly complex, this marks a significant step for agentic AI, with Gemini now auto-browsing in Chrome and acting as a productivity partner. Assuming Apple doesn’t introduce its improvements soon, Gemini may surpass Siri’s anticipated capabilities. Though Apple previewed similar Siri features for handling screen content and cross-app actions at WWDC 2024, delays mean they might not arrive until iOS 27. Gemini’s launch is a beta with uncertainties over developer collaboration, raising “the DoorDash problem” about app integration. Google’s advancements may push Apple further behind.
