Google Integrates Camera into Snapseed on iOS

The photo editing app Snapseed has now incorporated its own camera features, providing manual controls and retro film filters. Google has enhanced the iPhone version of Snapseed by introducing a camera within the app, offering a range of manual controls and retro film emulation effects. This marks the second significant update to Snapseed in less than a year after a period of inactivity from Google. The Snapseed camera offers an automatic mode, but users can access optional controls for ISO, shutter speed, and focus, along with flash and zoom. The app allows shooting with saved looks and edit stacks that can be adjusted post-shot, complemented by preset film effects inspired by films from Kodak, Fujifilm, and others. Users can also choose from various UI color themes.

According to 9to5Google, the camera feature started appearing discreetly in December 2025 and was initially activated through lock widgets, Camera Control, or the Control Center, without mention in the app’s update notes. This latest update integrates the camera into the main app, accessible via an icon in the top-right corner, marking its formal launch. Google previously updated Snapseed to version 3.0 in June 2025, introducing a redesign and new features — the app’s significant update since adding dark mode in 2021, following irregular support after Snapseed’s 2012 acquisition. The update has yet to reach the Android version, but developers confirmed on Reddit that it’s underway, expecting it in a few months.
